Trump on Diddy: “He Was Sort of Half-Innocent.”

It looks like Sean “Diddy” Combs has caught the attention of Donald Trump, as the former president recently discussed the topic of possibly pardoning him from his current situation. During the recent August 1 episode of Newsmax’s Finnerty, Trump fielded a question regarding whether he would consider such a decision on behalf of Combs, who was convicted on one charge last month.

The “Viagra” rapper was found guilty on the single federal charge of transportation with the intent to commit prostitution. The charge was significantly less severe than the original offenses of sex trafficking and racketeering that he had been previously acquitted of during the seven-week trial. It had also been filled with an array of reports, allegations, and notable testimonies in the case. The most viral of which included a surprise appearance by singer Cassie Ventura, who recounted Combs’ past relationship with her and alleged abuses and trafficking.

Combs had also made it very clear throughout the case that he maintains his innocence.

“Well, he was essentially, I guess, sort of half-innocent. … He’s still in jail or something, but he was celebrating a victory. But I guess it wasn’t as good a victory,” Trump said during the interview regarding a potential pardon. He also described that they were “very friendly” prior, but that the relationship had somewhat been lost since his run for the presidency.

“We were very friendly. I got along with him great. But I think when I ran for politics, that relationship busted up. … He used to like me a lot, but I think when I ran for politics, that relationship busted up. But we were friends. We got along very well. I would certainly look at the facts. If I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t like me, it wouldn’t have any impact on me.”

Trump’s Past Comments on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Situation

Trump previously shared similar remarks in May on the question of a possible pardon. This time, the event was during a Fox News reporter Peter Doocy’s question during a press briefing in the Oval Office.

“So I would look at the facts, Sean. I always do,” Trump said at the time. “If I think it’s a good idea, I would, but I know nothing about it, Sean. But I would certainly look at the facts. It’s not like he has a good relationship with me. We used to have a good relationship.”

He went on to reiterate his standpoint and the commitment to the selection being based on pure evaluation rather than loyalty or dislike of him.

“I think I would look very closely at that. And if I think it’s a proper thing to do, we can do it. We have the right to do it. But I would look at it very closely. I don’t know anything about the case. If I think that person was mistreated, it wouldn’t have any impact on me. It wouldn’t make any difference whether they like me or don’t like me.”

The Sean “Diddy” Combs trial and its verdict have continued to make waves, and all signs are pointing to a conclusion this year. The founder of Bad Boy Records is currently facing up to 20 years in prison following his conviction on July 12 and will go in for sentencing on October 3.

A clip from Trump’s full response during the Finnerty interview was posted on X (formerly Twitter), which has since been drawing comments from followers who are reevaluating the case, as well as his presidential powers and the potential of such a clemency order.
