Overnight Smash and Grab Incidents on South Side

Several businesses on Chicago’s South Side were targeted in a string of overnight smash and grab thefts, according to Chicago police. Four businesses located on 95th Street were among those affected by these incidents.

K.A.M. Alliance Targeted in Beverly Neighborhood

One of the incidents occurred around 4 a.m. Wednesday at K.A.M. Alliance, Inc., a mental health and substance abuse treatment facility in the 2200 block of W. 95th St. Surveillance footage from the scene shows suspects smashing the front door before at least one ran inside. Shortly after, a car horn can be heard, prompting a suspect to flee the business.

Angela, the owner of K.A.M. Alliance, reported that a police vehicle was coincidentally turning onto W. 95th St. just as the suspects were leaving. Police were able to stop the suspects, making arrests at the scene. Angela noted that her facility had nothing of value to take, explaining, “We’re just here trying to make an honest living and help the community.”

Other Business Smash and Grab Incidents on 95th Street

Additional overnight smash and grab incidents took place along 95th Street. In the 1100 block of W. 95th St., police say a suspect broke a business's front window and stole a cash box. The amount of money taken has not been disclosed. Meanwhile, in the 1300 block of W. 95th St., suspects broke another business’s front window before stealing electronics and fleeing the scene.

Further Thefts on East 95th Street

Another smash and grab theft occurred in the 300 block of East 95th Street. In this instance, police say suspects made off with some equipment before leaving the area.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Authorities have not indicated whether further arrests have been made in connection with the additional smash and grab incidents. The early-morning police response at K.A.M. Alliance led to the apprehension of suspects in that particular case, but no further arrest details have been released for the other targeted businesses.

Impact on Local Businesses

These recent overnight smash and grab incidents have affected multiple businesses on Chicago’s South Side, especially along 95th Street. While arrests have been made in at least one incident, the investigation into other local business thefts is ongoing as police work to identify further smash and grab suspects.
