Last Ballerina Trailer Brings Grit, Grace, and Gunfire
Opening theaters just three weeks from now, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is the Ana de Armas–starring spin-off series that will provide a splash of a familiar-yet-new palette of action that many fans of the franchise have been longing for since the last chapter. Leading up to its release on June 6, 2025, Lionsgate is giving fans one last helping with this final trailer, which it just released today, and it’s as loud, ferocious, and stylish as we could’ve hoped.
As teased from the initial trailer, Ballerina’s placement on the timeline of the John Wick films happens during John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Released in 2019, the third installment in the franchise sees Keanu Reeves’ titular assassin Keanu Wick placed “excommunicado” by the High Table, the Continental’s highest governing body, after killing the mob boss Santino D’Antonio (played by Mark Dacascos) at the Continental Hotel. With a multi-million-dollar bounty on his head, Wick was forced to flee New York City with the help of a few allies and other former gangsters as he made his way to the Ruska Roma crime family’s headquarters.
The Ruska Roma crime syndicate, headed by the mysterious Director (played by Anjelica Huston), was the place where Wick took shelter from his bounty. The Director’s followers weren’t only there to make ballet a deadly form of combat — they were killing machines who used their graceful moves to murder. In Parabellum, a glimpse of one of the young ballerinas in training in a wide shot in the middle of a stage rehearsal was all viewers got to see of this group. Now, in the spin-off Ballerina, one of those dancers from the Ruska Roma will be the main character and will star none other than Ana de Armas.
Several returning characters have been confirmed, and some of them are back with the ballerina. Huston will return as the Director, while Ian McShane is back in the franchise in his role as Winston. Lance Reddick, who passed away in March 2023, will also be in the final film as Charon, the Continental’s efficient concierge. Longtime fans of the John Wick saga will surely be sad to see this as one of his last roles on the big screen.
In addition to these actors, Gabriel Byrne is confirmed to be in Ballerina as Chancellor, the antagonist of this new spin-off film. Sharon Duncan-Brewster and Norman Reedus are playing Nogi and Daniel Pine, respectively. Catalina Sandino Moreno and David Castañeda are also in the cast, but their characters have not yet been revealed.
Tale of Revenge with the Usual Wick Magic
A first teaser trailer for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina was released last September 2024 and focused on the history of Eve. She was an orphan who was recruited by the Ruska Roma. She had one aim and one aim only — revenge. She had sworn to avenge the grisly murder of her father, and as the trailer promised, the lead role of Eve is played by Ana de Armas.
A second trailer was released in March 2025. In this one, the focus was on the fateful encounter between Eve and Wick in the snowy and atmospheric building. As much as this new trailer kept the focus on the chemistry between the two characters, it also revealed a small amount of screen time that the two assassins will have in the film. It also showed that they have found an ally and ally in each other as both shared the same rules when it came to survival in their world.
The latest and final trailer for Tallerina looks darker and more intense than the previous two. This teaser starts with Wick’s gun scope locked on a young ballerina named Eve (Ana de Armas). Wick is warning her that she has a bounty on her head and that his gun is loaded. It then flashes into fast-paced action scenes using old and new footage. For those who have seen the previous trailer and the previous films in the saga, there was no surprise as the fight scenes looked even more kinetic. All the fights from close-quarters and gunfights to hand-to-hand combat and stunts all have razor-sharp choreography and focus.
Ana de Armas shows off her physicality in the role as she slugs it out with opponent after opponent as one of the ballerina-assassins of the franchise. She also shows that she is more than game for action-heavy films as she throws herself into the choreography without hesitation. The quote from the film shows the ballerina’s determination: “This isn’t done until they’re dead.”
Fans can expect Ballerina to have the same tone that the previous films have established. The battle choreography is extremely tight, and each frame is staged to perfection. The aesthetic is sleek and stylish, while the world that the characters inhabit remains layered with mythology, as do the other movies in the franchise. The focus this time, however, is on a female assassin and her journey against the same backdrop as the one John Wick once occupied.
With Keanu Reeves’ character woven into the film without eclipsing the new character, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina seems to be primed to widen the franchise while allowing Ana de Armas to be the center of attention. Fans can look forward to the usual John Wick series formula of having personal and character-driven moments along with massive and large-scale sequences.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina opens theaters on June 6, 2025.
